Assignment Objectives:
This activity will help students to:
• Have a clear understanding about gender differences in different cultures
• Understand how to critically analyze a book and discuss with references to our culture
• Enhance their reading habits and analytical skills
Assignment:
“Critical Analysis of Gender Differences”
John Gray, an American author and relationship counselor, wrote an eminent book “Men Are
from Mars, Women Are from Venus’ in 1996. He discussed about universal gender differences
and stated “Men mistakenly expect women to think, communicate, and react the way men do;
women mistakenly expect men to feel, communicate, and respond the way women do. We have
forgotten that men and women are supposed to be different. As a result, our relationships are
filled with unnecessary friction and conflict”
Dear Students,
This book has been uploaded in the download section of VU-LMS. You need to download it
and read it carefully. After that you have to:
a) List down atleast ten (10) differences in communication and behavior of men and
women which Gray has described. (5)
b) Which of the listed differences also exist in our culture? Do you think gender
differences are universal in nature? Logically discuss your view point. (5)
c) Write down a critical analysis of this book by focusing on greatest strength and
greatest weakness of the work? Analyze by adding your personal opinion. (5
